Moonlight Movies on the Independence Square
Outside the Pharaoh Cinema 4 every Thursday night this summer you could see a crowd. Bringing lawn chairs or blankets, they gathered in the parking lot to enjoy free, family friendly movies projected on the side of the building. Getting there early was a must if you wanted the best spot! Activities before the show included free raffles, contests for kids, and plentiful concessions. There was even a Selfy-Station (props included) where photos were taken and uploaded in hopes of showing up on the “big screen” the next week and winning a prize. From face painting to the 5th annual hot dog eating competition (sponsored by Up Dog, benefiting Big Brother Big Sisters Kansas City) there was always something to do. Clinton’s Soda Fountain, where President Truman had his first job, participated with a “buck night” by selling ice cream cones and cotton candy for just one dollar. After the pre-show activities, it was time for the main event!

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the support from community businesses through advertising and donations of raffle prizes. It also wouldn’t have been possible without all of the Independence families who came to share Thursday nights with us. Thanks to everyone involved! We hope you had a great summer, and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
